Short Description

The Core Foundation Services team (CFS) is responsible for providing end to end support for critical technologies that are used across the company. This includes Configuration and Orchestration, Identity Management, Name Services, Enterprise Monitoring Solutions, and automation tools used to manage these technologies. CFS is currently looking for a Data Scientist who will: Work with internal technical operations and risk teams to define problems, data collection, synthesize relevant data, build analytical models and forecasts

Job Description

Combine data and business principles to recommend solutions for large infrastructure problems
Leverage tools like Business Objects, Qlikview, Spotfire, Splunk, NoSQL & SQL to drive efficient analytics
Communicate recommendations and drive improvements
Capture requirements, translate customer problems into predictive analytics, clearly communicate results in both written and oral presentations, demonstrate predictive analytics capabilities and solutions to prospective clients
Gather, analyze, and normalize relevant information related to business processes, functions, and operations to evaluate data credibility and determine relevance and meaning
Exhibit expertise in core areas: process knowledge, systems thinking, software development, analytical, collaboration, and technology platform management
Play a dual role of a data scientist and application developer

Responsibilities:
Exploratory Analysis
  • Surface interesting and useful trends from infrastructure systems, process gaps, risk and regulatory
  • Understand infrastructure ecosystem, trends, and key drivers
  • Create a repeatable platform that exposes large data sets into consumable reporting
  • Knowledge Master
  • Be the go-to person for any data question
  • Bring data to the masses: i.e. teach folks how to get their own data and be self-sufficient
  • Create presentations on trends and issues to a wide range of audiences: operational teams, management, senior technology leaders, finance, and business
  • Data platform
  • Ensure that our operational metrics meets the organizations needs
  • Advocate for updates to the operational data collection and analysis tools
  • Application Development
  • Develop dashboards that clients can consume and take action (Java or .Net)
  • Create reporting using business intelligence tools  (Business Objects, Qlikview, Spotfire, Splunk)

Quality Assurance
  • Work with our Application Development team to ensure that the data is accurate
  • Work with our Application Development team to understand better ways to present data
  • Work with our clients to understand issues with current visualizations

Requirements:
  • 5+ years work experience in the use of advanced data analysis/machine learning methods in infrastructure/systems.
  • Advanced Degree in an analytical field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Management Science) or another quantitative disciplines.
  • Strong SQL skills (MS SQL, Oracle, Sybase)
  • Hands-on data mining / analytics experience with large datasets
  • Experience in Infrastructure or Technology Operations
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize a demanding and varied workload
  • Work long hours when required
  • Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with mapping business needs to engineering systems
  • Substantial experience with the use of relational databases using SQL for data extraction, management , and queries (MSSQL, Oracle, Sybase)
  • Knowledge of NoSQL data stores and Cassandra
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools (Business Objects, QlikView, Splunk)
  • Must be able to address multiple priorities in an extremely fast-paced environment
