CBSE in a bold step introduced Artificial Intelligence as a Skill Subject in Class IX along with Early Childhood care Education and Yoga. "The CBSE is introducing as an optional 6th subject at class IX from the session 2019-2020 onwards. To enhance the multidisciplinary approach in teaching learning and also to sensitize the new generation, it was decided that schools may start AI "inspire module" of 12 hours at class VIII itself, " the Senior board official said. "Artificial Intelligence in the past few years has gained geo-strategic importance and many countries are striving hard to stay ahead with their policy initiatives to get their nation ready" -According to the report.

The skill subject is added as a 6th subject along with the existing 5 subjects. If any student fails in any one of the three elective subjects (i.e. science, mathematics, and social science), then it will be replaced by the skill subject (offered as a 6th subject) and the result of Class X will be computed based on best five subjects. However, if a candidate desires to reappear in the failed subject, he/she may appear along with the compartment examination, according to the report. Similarly, at Senior Secondary level, Board would appreciate, if schools offer at least one or more skill-based subject as elective subjects out of the 42 subjects, which can orient the students to explore new avenues and acquire a pre-professional skill to face the challenges of life in future, the Report said.

International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts that the compound annual growth rate for global sending on AI will be 50.1%, reaching $57.6 billion by 2021. Around the globe, robot imports have increased from around 100,000 in 2000 to roughly 250,000 in 2015- IDC reported. These statistics clearly point out the growth AI is facing and India must not leave behind in gaining skills and expertise in this technology. For the same reason for the first time, CBSE came up with such a revolutionary decision.

This step is really going to impact positively on the young minds of the latest technology and will provide them with the skills and expertise in the relevant field. Also, new doors and opportunities will be opened for all those students who with the dearth of resources do not get a chance to pursue their dreams. Also, the lack of awareness that students have of the latest technology will be rooted out from this bold step. Skills will be developed in young minds from a grassroots level which is the best part of this step.
