A chatbot that helps tackle workplace harassment

The campaigns like #MeToo and Time's Up show how sexual harassment as a problem has become a hot topic of public discussion. These developments also highlight how these disturbing events have for long been unreported or ignored by the public.

A new chatbot has been developed, that uses computer-controlled robot to simulate the behavior of a human interviewer and help record and report workplace harassment anonymously. Spot uses Natural Language Processing in order to understand user inputs and respond meaningfully to them.

The chat guides a participant through an evidence based cognitive interview without requiring them to actually speak to a human. This helps get a high quality account of what actually transpired and avoids production of false memories.

It also minimizes barriers to harassment reporting since users can report events without having to deal with a human. This helps keep issues like trust, confidentiality and doubts at bay. At the end of the session, Spot gives the participants a time-stamped report. This can be later used as evidence if needed. If the user requests, the chatbot can also send an anonymous version of the report to the employer of the user. These reports get deleted from Spot's servers 30 days after it has been downloaded by the user.

This is an excellent approach to tackling workplace harassment which often goes unreported or ignored due to various issues. Spot can really make a difference here and help reform workplace atmosphere.
