Why Bots Will Revolutionize the Way Restaurants Work

By Nand Kishor |Email | May 5, 2017 | 5781 Views

Engaging customers on weekdays is one of the most difficult tasks faced by restaurants. Whether you shell out exclusives or give out discount coupons, the end turnover just doesn't match up to the expectations. The tasty food, sumptuous ambience, courteous staff not cutting it for you? Take a step back and think, what might be that "one" missing thing? Are your offers reaching out to the customers you want to attract or getting lost somewhere out there?

More often than not, marketing to the right audience is a challenge with little knowledge of the medium they are most engaged on. The traditional methods of marketing still have its place, but let's face it, it's rather difficult to know how many people have actually got these SMS and emails. This is where technology comes into play.

The way customers engage today is different. There comes the need to stay up to date with latest trends in the market and subsequently adapt to interact with customers. Few early adopters are opting for bot marketing as a tool to target their audience. So, what exactly is a Chatbot? A similar tool like Siri and Google Assistant, only difference being, chatbots use texts to converse with people and mimic human interactions. Unlike email and SMS marketing, bots make it conversational and the majority are made on messenger platforms like Facebook Messenger, WeChat and Slack among others. Gartner foresees 85% of customer engagement would happen without actual human involvement according to TechEmergence.

Wondering how a chatbot could help your restaurant? Well, people these days are more active on messenger apps than social media or any other platform. Facebook Messenger alone has an average of 900 million active users that too monthly.

As Satya Nadella puts it "Conversations as a platform. A simple concept yet it's very powerful in its impact. It is about taking the power of human language and applying it more pervasively. This can have as profound an impact as the previous platform shifts have had."

Earlier last year, quick service restaurant TacoBell partnered with Slack to launch TacoBot which facilitates food ordering and recommends items along with witty responses. Other quick service giants like Burger King, Pizza Hut and Dominos have also followed suit with their proprietary chatbots. Growing order requests, through online networking is a characteristic fit for a restaurant which already connects with customers through other social channels.
