The International Institute of Information Technology IIIT Hyderabad is targeting to train 10000 IT experts in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning skills.
The institute which is about to complete its maiden unit for 400 IT professionals is planning to inflate the course offerings to Bengaluru in the next phase.
"We will then go to the National Capital Region, Mumbai, Pune and Chennai," Ramesh Loganathan, who heads the Co-Innovation Practice at the institute, said. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said the institute would train 1,400 professionals this year in the programme. â??We will scale it up to 2,000 professionals in 2019, 3,000 in 2020 and 4,000 the following year," he said.
The first cohort of the Foundations of AI and ML programme covered IT professionals from 127 companies. Majority of the candidates are with five to 15 years of experience.
The institute is offering the course in partnership with skilling firm TalentSprint.
"AI ML is a deep and unsettling technology and we are making it reachable and digestible to industry professionals from diverse technology backgrounds," PJ Narayanan, Director of IIIT H, said. Santanu Paul, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TalentSprint, said that there was a huge shortage for people with AI ML skills.
Quoting a study, he said that only one per cent of the 30 lakh IT professionals in the country are exposed to AI and ML skills.
