IT giant, Google, has partnered with an online education portal Coursera to provide education and certification that can help you get a job as an IT professional. The certificate course is open for all and would help prepare an individual for an entry-level position with the IT companies. The best part of the program is that it is an online course and would require a commitment of 8 - 10 hours a week from most. The enrollment for the course has now started on Coursera. About the program
It is a sic course certificate program. Candidate can choose either all the 6 courses or keep picking them up as you go. The curriculum revolves around technical support fundamentals, basic computer hardware, operating systems, system administration, IT automation and security. The course aims at making the individual ready for entry-level jobs in an IT company. At the end of the course, candidates would be able to send their scores to Google along with other IT employers like Bank of America, Walmart, Sprint, GE Digital, PNC Bank, Infosys, TEKsystems, UPMC.
Tenure of the program
The program has a total of 64 hours of lessons, over 6 courses, projects and certificates. A person spending an average of 8-10 hours a week would be able to complete the course in about 8 to 12 months. Candidates also have the option of skipping the courses if they are versed in the content.
The cost of one course is about $49 which roughly translates to Rs 3100. Please note, there is no financial assistance for Indian students. Also, the taxes and service charges, as applicable, would also apply over and above the mentioned cost. A person choosing to take all the 6 courses would be spending about Rs. 20,000. Candidates can pay for a single course and keep paying as they add courses.
